Character

One of the hardest (and most important) things about writing (and painting), at least for me, is bringing out the personality of my characters (or subjects in a painting or drawing). I didn’t study writing or painting (other than one drawing course my freshman year in college) so I am not as technically savvy as some. I can’t make a painted image look like a photograph. I can’t make my writing poetic, or use literary vocabulary.

My secret powers are color and simplicity. I try to make my work vibrant, thought provoking, meaningful. Imperfection can be beautiful. None of us is perfect but therein lies our beauty. Our scars tell our story. Don’t hide them, celebrate them, you earned them..
