Adoption

Yesterday I had a conversation with a young woman who was adopted from Korea as an infant. When I got home, there was a post on my facebook feed by another Korea adoptee who is looking for birth family, reminding me of just how many children are adopted from Korea and other countires.

I have had conversations with other young people adopted from Korea Like the young woman yesterday, they are considering the pros and cons of searching: What if my birth mother doesn’t want anything to do with me? What if I don’t like her? What next?, etc.

There are many children and adults around the world with simillar questions and similar feelings of not fitting in.

My debut novel approaches the question of adoption from a different angle. As Chin-sun, one of the main characters, searches orphanages for the son she lost at the end of the Korean War, she learns about international adoptions and wonders about the effects on the children and if her own son has been sent to another country.
